Yepp, you are absolutely right! My first days in SL were not that succesfull. I have even thought about giving up on SL. But then I started to meet nice people from all over the world, I learned how to build things etc. The fact that you can create your own things in SL is really the big power of this virtual world. You can make your own clothes and build your own house and your own furniture.

There have been several conversations about Second Life here. Some people seem to like it, some don't. Just like our forum, a taste for everyone. One comment was made that it is hard to introduce our interest into conversations. The easiest way to do this is to list your interests in your profile. You can check anyone's profile on SL just by clicking on their name, which is posted over their avitar.

What I have noticed is that many people don't post anything in their profiles. You can't tell if they like to swim, dance, chat, shop or whatever.

I also see a lot of profile comments that are scary. If you are open, friendly and offer to chat you can find amazing people there.

The difficult part is to keep in mind that it is just fantasy (like this forum). Don't get so involved that you lose yourself in the fantasy. You could easily blurr the edges of reality.

And, there is a lot of free stuff on SL. Even free wet tee shirts.

So, join and start exploring. There is EVERYTHING in SL.
