As I'm sure you are well aware, this blocking mechanism is only 1 of several that I use.
I do not want to start off yet another big discussion on whether you should have to register to use this forum.
Forcing people to register does not reduce the spam, the spammers simply have a bit more work to do, having to create a dummy registration, and then post their crap. Graham, and any 'registered' forum owners still have to monitor the forum, and removed any crap, and then revoke the spammer's login.
99% of the people caught by my keyword spam detector are real spammers. I've only ever caught 2 or 3 people out, until recently, when I added the F word, and Brit Spears, which have now been removed.
Most of the keywords are actually websites linked to spamming or unsavory stuff.
If you let me know the words that are "catching you out every few months" then I can look into it...

By MK - wamtec@comcast.net Mon 11/08/08 12:24:32 GMT Yep....has happened to me several times.....e.g. earlier this year I wanted to post a free wetlook video clip from a famous Russian all-girl pop group....but I was unable to post that message, cos the spelling of this pop group's name happens to be a similar spelling to the world's most popular sexual enhancement product...and thats a banned word on this forum, cos the spammers use it a lot.
Every few months I have this problem of not being able to post messages cos there are some words in there that spammers also use, and many of those words are banned here. It is very frustrating at times...I have to unblock myself every 2-3 months...
I still do not think that this is the best way to handle the spammers, cos this word banning system is not intelligent at all.
The best way to handle the spammers, is the way Graham does it...i.e. via having a proper registration system on the forum.

By Nigel - nigel@wetlook.com Mon 11/08/08 09:37:53 GMT Website: www.wetlook.com Have you been blocked from posting ?
A few years ago I devised an auto-blocking system when people mention certain websites or 'naughty' words. If you have been trying to post, but your posts do not appear, then you have probably be caught by this system. For instructions on releasing the block, please contact me, with your email address, and your posting name(s).
