By gopher - Fri 27/06/08 02:09:11 GMT I live 40 miles from the Falls.. and , ironically am planning to go to the Cape... LOL
The engineers royally f#$%ed up when they planned the new casino and the skyscraper motels built atop the ridge of the escarpment. The prevaling winds are from the west, the buildings are on the west side of the gorge.. the wind hits the buildings and gets lofty, creating a low pressure area below the escarpment. The mist from the Falls thenroutinely engulphs the area known as Table rock, and all those tourists who happen to be strolling along ( This is all on the Canadian side, by the way) Many tourists curse this.. oh well.. their loss... In no time, you both can conveniently be drenched, just from the rising mist. Pity you forgot a rain coat or umbrella... LOL The Maid of the Mist and the observation platform on the US side, will both allow you to get drenched, but everyone else will be wrapped up in those environmentally nightmarish disposable slickers... so you may look out of place. There is also a tour on the Canadian side that allows you to go down behind the Falls.. When you get bored, come to Hamilton.. the waterfall capital of Canada. Many private and inviting waterfalls wait to be explored...

By Brad - Bradbrad900@yahoo.com Thu 26/06/08 20:05:23 GMT You can do the boat ride, but, man, you need to just look at the way the winds are blowing. If there is little wind, the mist from the falls will completely soak the platforms you look at the falls from. When I was there, the first day, on the Canadian side, you would get totally soaked from the mist just walking up to the falls overlook wall. The next day, the winds were from the northwest and the mist was on the New York side. Totally cool. And, yeah, you'll need a waterproof camera if you take it close in. Hope it's hot, too, so you can enjoy. I did. |

By Bostonwet - Thu 26/06/08 18:14:01 GMT My wife and I are planning a short trip to Niagara Falls. A few questions for those who may know. Will we get wet on the Maid of the Mist boat ride? On the deck walk? We won`t be wearing those stupid ponchos. Any other ideas? Thanx |
