When I was at school in the late 1960s and our school would take us to Downham Baths each week for swim lessons.....we were "segregated" back in those days...i.e. the boys were never allowed in the pool at the same time as the girls. The boys swimming times were always at a different time to the girls times....we were never allowed in the pool with the girls at the same time they were in the pool. We had our sessions in the pool first, and then I would go up to the balcony area and watch the girls doing their survival training in clothes in the pool. I never saw girls wearing dresses and shoes in the pool (as the other posted said he saw at Downham baths)...the girls always wore night dresses, pajamas, or mostly gym skirts with t shirts or pants in the pool.

As I am sure Steve from the Wetscape Team knows....it was very common for the girls to wear night dresses in the pool for their survival swimming training, cos that is when they would teach the girls to grab their dresses and inflate them with air in order to stay afloat. Yes...it is true that night dresses were used, cos it's a small world, cos I used to go to DOWNHAM pool in Kent too.. That was the closest pool to where I lived and we would go there every week for our swim classes in the late 1960's. Downham pool was great for me...when I was about 12 years old...cos every week I used to hang out on the balconey watching the girls doing their clothes floating billowing trials in the pool.

As for the logic...of why they would train the girls to be able to swim in their night dresses...when the likelihood of them actually wearing a night dress in a real life situation is unlikely (unless they are on the Titanic...ha ha).....you are right....it defies all logic....

but then....Airline Flight attendants have totally illogical pool training too....i.e. 90% of all the dozens of Flight Attendant pool training clips I have collected on tv.....show the Flight Attendants training in the pool in T SHIRTS AND SHORTS. I must have missed travelling on that Airline ....cos what Airline has flight attendants who wear t shirts and shorts on the plane (only Hooters Airline...and they have gone out of business now).

The ONLY Airline I know that has realistic pool training with the Flight Attendants wearing their actual uniforms...is Japan Airlines.

So what do American airlines do when a plane is nose diving into the sea then.....I guess they make an announcement to people....telling them that the Flight Attendants are currently busy...cos they need to change into their T Shirt and Shorts...ha ha

Nighties for the girls?  I've never heard of that before!  That seems like even less of a simulation of normal clothes than wearing pyjamas...  Must have been fun to watch though.  Wow

Can you drop me an e-mail?  Ta!

I got my "fetish" for wet clothes doing the lifesaving lessons at school in the 1970's, then it was pyjamas only (nighties for the girls!) and i still love wearing wet pyjamas the most even now.

I,d be happy to share my experiences with you either through E-Mails or on Yahoo messenger or MSN :) Hope i can help! Wink Smile

As you may know from my infrequent posts here (or from reading my blog), I'm a writer of wetlook stories.  I'm currently working on a storyline which involves the female character being turned on to wet clothes when a boy she has taken a fancy to is forced to do a school swimming lesson in his football kit, having forgotten to bring his swimming gear.  As this never happened at my school (believe me, I tried!) I was wondering if anyone had experienced similar in real life?  Did you have a sadistic swim coach who forced someone in your class into the pool in their gym kit, or even normal clothes?  How did they - and the rest of the class - react?

I'd also like to hear about your experiences of lifesaving classes.  Did you have to dive in the pool in your pyjamas to rescue a brick?  Again, this is something that never happened to me, but everyone seems to know a "friend of a friend" who had to do it.

In the interests of decency, we'll assume that all involved were 16 or over at the time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thumbs Up
