FYI....Indian movies have always been dark and fuzzy focus. I have rented thousands of Indian films on VHS since the 1980's, and it is rare to find any of their films that are not dark and out of focus. It is only recently in the last 4-5 years, since the DVD age, have they FINALLY started to produce films that are sharply in focus and with good lighting.

In the 1980's....one of THE most ANNOYING aspects of Indian rental films...was that any time a song occurs on an Indian film (which is an obligatory btw...you must have a song every 15 minutes, or you are breaking the law)...as soon as the song would start...up come all the BANNER ADS and tickertape texts running ALL ACROSS THE SCREEN....i.e. when there is song (which is where 90% of the wet scenes are located)....it's "Dow Jones Ticker Tape Time"....ha ha.....i.e. they have more texts flying across the screen than MSNBC on steroids.

I could write a book about "the rules of Indian wetlook scenes"....ie.

1) No wetlook ever occurs after a marriage or wedding scene. As soon as you see a marriage scene...it's GAME OVER...no need to watch the rest of the film -- head for the exit door ...ha ha

2) 90% of all wetlook scenes occur in the first hour of an Indian film...and NOTHING ever happens during the last hour of an Indian film. The last hour is always reserved for a) the obligatory court room scene, and b) the obligatory fight to the death scene...

I could list lots more...but my personal favorite rule is this one....

3) Whenever a girl starts off a scene wearing a great outfit.....you can be sure that she will only stay in that outfit for about 10 seconds...cos she changes outfiuts about 10 times in that song and changes into more boring outfits. But when a girl starts off wearing a boring outfit....you can be sure she will stay in that same boring outfit for most of the song. In other words....you are never satisfied...cos if the outfit is great...she changes outfits very quickly.....and if the outfit is lousy...she stays with that same lousy outfit.

Furthermore, this version has wrong aspect ratio.

If you see it by Media Player Classic then you could correct it. Just go to View->Video Frame menu and select Stretch to Window, then uncheck Keep Aspect Ratio. Stretch the player window vertically to your taste. Enjoy!

MK: I agree about the focus, I can even tolerate it.

But it is the too-dark sequences that drive me up the wall. It is as if their cameras are firmly set on f8. In some sequences you can see shadows, so you know the sun is out, or possibly the one 60-watt bulb that apparently is used to illuminate the set is on.  But many are dark, far to dark for me, at least, to enjoy.

But compared to most bad youtubes posted, they are of academy quality!

Ah yes...from an old movie called HUM made back in 1991...I have had several versions of this on various tapes for years. Sadly, I have rented VHS versions and also taped it from Indian satellite channels...and not ONE single print of this film has EVER been in FOCUS. This entire sequence is shot in a blurry out of focus way. I wish Indian film makers knew how to shoot things IN FOCUS...cos about 80% of Indian films you rent are always too dark and too soft-focus or out of focus...and wetlook needs to be seen in SHARP focus.

I think we can say that this is not a case where an Indian film copied COYOTE UGLY...cos they made this film many years before the Coyote Ugly phenomina started hitting the night clubs and bars.

I would enjoy Indian wetlook a LOT more...if only they could learn to use decent quality film stock and lenses and know how to release their films IN FOCUS.

After an endless session of dances, mostly by guys, this video ends with a full-firehose version of Coyote Ugly drenching the female principal in a sequence that is worth waiting for. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXqlWgGsM0o
