It was a special made for "Red Nose Day". It's meant to be funny. If you follow the link you'll see some other clips from the evening and have the option to make a donation.

The full clip starts off with the controller of BBC1 moaning to the producer that the shows are always so depressing and that there should be some jollier story lines. This is part of what the producer comes up with.

I thought Eastenders was a dramatic soap opera (same genre as Coronation Street). Sure, subtle humour behind otherwise dramatic story lines, but a laugh track, Benny Hill-esque sight gags, and a production number reminiscent of America's Drew Carey?

I am so confused!

Nice so see that girl in the black coat get soaked, I must say.
