My computer just returned from a virusectomy.

And I find that my MS media player will not play more-recent avis and mpegs which require certain CODECs.

The player "sends out" for them and gets an error message.

I assume that the source for them, which I previously downloaded has either been damaged or is missing.

Request the appropriate URL by which I can download those CODECs to play those video clips which I used to do before the recent "repair."
