Well...Bill is basically the godfather of this entire culture...and he started it all when he launched Splosh magazine in 1989.

Actually...that magazine article is really a throwback to 1974....because it was in 1974 that Paul Raymond's UK girlie mag called FIESTA first ran a series of true wetlook photo spreads in a girlie mag. Those were the "Bride in the Bath" series and other wetlook photosets done by Colin Twyford. Bill used to be a writer for Fiesta and other UK girlie mags in the 1970's...so Bill and Roger and Colin were the ones who first started showing wetlook in UK mags in the mid 1970's. That new article...is actually EXACTLY the same kind of presentation Fiesta mag did back in 1974....and in those days....people like me use to spend hours and hours in all the Soho book stores looking for stuff like that...cos wetlook was so hard to find in the 1970's.

We have Bill to thank...for basically taking what he started in Fiesta magazine in the 1970's....into creating his own Splosh magazine in the late 1980's....the first and still the only magazine devoted to this culture.

So....when you read that 2007 Sun article....think back to 1974...cos that is basically the same kind of article that Fiesta magazine did 33 years ago....so nothing much has changed...only today the technology advancements are so good...that anybody with 200 quid to buy a camcorder can start shooting very good stuff. I remember buying my first video camera in 1978...and it cost $3000 and the picture quality was lousy...and in those days you could not shoot decent video unless you spent 20,000 quid to buy a Betacam broadcast camera.

BTW...don't think that the folks in the USA were way behind us Brits on recognizing wetlook in magazines....cos they were actually AHEAD of the UK....cos in the USA wetlook was heavily promoted in the late 1950's (by wetfan and his friends) in a U.S. girlie magazine called NIGHT AND DAY...and that magazine ran several photo competitions for MISS DRENCHED or MISS WETLOOK in the late 1950's....I think you can find scans from this mag on JJ's vintage wetlook site......so Wetfan really helped to launch the wetlook culture in the USA in the 1940's and 50's....and as you know...Sopping was producing lots of great media iin the 1960's and 70's too.

I totally agree with you Mark, I left a post here on friday and it seems to have gone missing, I concluded Nigel has deleted it, I merely asked if the 3 ladies were reading this forum, if so - Hello.

I like your diagnose re Bill's terms, and I have to congratulate you Homes on what a pure genius you are in assuming Bill wrote the article. Splendid!

All the best to you Mark

Interesting article....but something does not seem to gel with me.....i.e. he we have 3 ladies who claim to be wetlook fans and self sploshers....but yet they are totally uknown to us. Seeing as 99% of the wetlook fans, including female, either visit this forum or (more likely) Graham's forum....how come they are all unknown to us. You would think....that if a prominent newspaper like the Sun were going to do a story abot 3 female sploshers in the UK, that they would have been ladies who are well known to us...i.e. like some of Graham or Leon's girls.

I just don't see how you can claim to be a fan of wetlook....and be totally unknown on the forums.

There is one clue though....the Sun newspaper never uses the term "WAM" that we all use to define the genre. They use the term "Sploshers" or "Sploshing"...which is a term invented by Bill Shipton of Splosh magazine, so any time the word "Sploshing" is used instead of WAM...I would say that the article was probably written by Bill Shipton.

If you refer to the other link to loveit which was recently posted, you'd see that the Sun, Loveit, and several other tabloids are all published by the same company.

Although the tone of the article seems good, I'm not sure the context helps much... right up there with flying saucer stories.

Hi All,

I dunno if this link has been listed before, but here is the Sun Online version of the story - Looks like the Sun and Love it are linked.
