Steve posted three manually captured vidcaps per clip at full (or above) full frame size, but it drove him up the wall and he moved to just one vidcap per clip. I spend quite a bit of time getting the perfect vidcap for each clip, but you still only get one (unless I reprogrammed the site to allow the count to go back up, or become variable).

The WAMbank's automated approach is nice, but sucks at times for missing out all the interesting things that happen in faster clips -- it can't be helped, and no-one's going to do it all by hand. I also get the impression that the large size is still well below the clip's full size and quality -- I was looking at the Big Dil clips and no way were the large size images a fraction as good as the clips. Being a video site, it must be saving bandwidth by not having full frame quality preview images, which is also good as it stops the previews giving the game away too well :) Gotta download the video for the full effect.

The video player I use, Media Player Classic, does have a time lapse facility to generate a story board of images from the video, but when I did try it once, it died with a meaningless error. Assuming it demonstrated reliability, I could in fact use this to generate a complete series of stills -- as a single image -- from every video. Of course, for longer clips, the still sequence alone would be a pretty large image! What you'd like is more like what http://wbilder.50g.com/ had -- a page of separately viewable stills with thumbnails that were possibly even hand-picked.

I have no idea what software would generate that apart from doing it by hand, frame by frame in Media Player Classic! With 1600 clips on the site, it would take forever.

Mk I was not referring to anyone in particular.Producers in my opinion do a good job of including sample pics of their videos.

FYI we always posted preview pics for all videos posted to our Wambank site. The site has an automated vidcapper program that generates time-lapse pics for every video that gets uploaded, so if you want to see pics from the latest "Germany's Next Top Model" scene that took place yesterday, they are all there....see here...

Likewise, I have always provided preview pics on my Wamtec Gold site, and the WIR site have always done a great job of providing sample pics for every single video on their site too.

It is only the inferior sites like Youtube and Rapidshare that offer no prevew pics of their videos.

ps....I should mention that the WIR site is very well suited for Dial Up folks, because when Steve first created his site it catered to dial up folks, so hundreds of very small sized clips under 10 megs were uploaded for the Dial Up folks to easily download.

I agree and disagree with you. Videos are great and great for those who use DSL so keep on posting them. But it would be good to also post pictures from the videos.

More and more posts are of only videos these days. Yes they are awesome! Especially for the folks who can download them. I do not know about others but speaking for myself with a dialup connection most of the videos are out of my realm. Many times only videos are posted, without pics. So it leaves me wondering what the videos were like.Too bad pics were not included more often along with the videos. Hopefully I am not whining too much but it ain't easy being a caveman.
