it looks exactly the same as a tidal bore (not to be confused with a tsunami) which usually occurs when there is narrowing of the mouth of the river from the sea and the inflow of water causes this effect.

See Wikipedia link for full explanation and Rivers around the world that exhibit this. The river severn in the UK has one of the biggest - which I have seen - it was large enough for surfers to ride for miles inland!

If it wasn't a bore it was probably just a great big ship moving to fast!

That's no CGI... and it does look very much like the same sort of phenomenon as a tsunami, just on a smaller scale. Unlike a wave which is more-or-less symmetrical front-to-back and has a distinct peak (disregarding "breaking" waves), this thing appeared to have a sharp leading edge with no discernable peak, and a higher water level extending for quite some distance behind. It also appeared to travel quite fast - much faster than an "ordinary" wave. It looked rather like an "artificial" tsunami created in a test tank I had seen on a science show.

Might be interesting to see what the scientists had to say about it. I'd think something like this would make at least local news... anyone find anything written up about it?

I don't believe this will act as a url, you may have to paste. But what is the story behind this tsunami-like wall of water sweeping up a canal in, what appears to be, a European city? It I apparently swept people having outdoor refreshments into a canal? It does not appear to be fake, and I cannot read the captions. Clarification?
