tradition seems to have its roots in old seafaring, namely piracy (urgh!). Victims had to balance for their life. I'm not this good in Dutch, maybe someone else can translate the "historie" from the page

Does anyone know about this tradition? It is some kind of Netherlands thing where people have to walk a pole across a river... or at least try. I have started to search the net a bit, but since I don't speak dutch I am finding it kinda hard. It seems like it has some potential.
