Ha Ha!! Those of younger generations may be interested in how they became known as "Soaps". In the early days of TV (50's) the shows usually had just one sponsor. Since the daytime audience was mostly stay-at-home housewives, the sponsors advertized their laundry and house-cleaning products and the name has stuck to this day. Interesting how culture and language evolve.
