Wetlook-Online
I don't think I've ever been keen on spending money (Yorkshire blood ;) but produced wetlook carries a porn stigma to me such that I don't want to buy it. I did purchase a few video clips from Wet Kahuna, on the false hope that my PC was powerful enough to play them ;-) (I do now have access to a machine that they'll play on, woo)

I tend to be of the view that money should never come into anything, not that it's actually viable either in the real world or any world at all, and as such, I tend to provide anything that I can without charge, but the bandwidth costs of a video site are not for the faint hearted. When I first discovered the Web in 1999 when I started university, it was not long before I asked, what if I search it for "wet hair" and found that I was not alone in liking wet hair and clothes. There were still entirely free wetlook clip sites around at the time -- 2000 it would have been, I think one was Wet Dreams and there was a larger one -- but they ... dried up ;) -- probably as traffic got too high.

Trying to police the Net is a tough area. Someone just told me that Microsoft had hotlinked to someone's flickr photo somewhere so he replaced it with a goatse image and Microsoft had to apologise =) Every now and then we get an opportunity to really teach someone a lesson (I've played a prank or two on hotlinkers but generally they're not troublesome enough to bother me and I guess I should be glad I can be of use somehow), but realistically, it's hard to police anything at all let alone that which we have no legal jurisdiction.

Everything has its good and bad uses and sometimes we can only ask, what are they offering that we can't? If we all have clips on our PC, it's easier to just share that folder and let people sort themselves out than having to negotiate the WAMbank where, while you can pay for credits, your payment is doing no-one a service. With BitTorrent you're providing for other people too instead of just for yourself -- offering your Internet bandwidth and clips to others.

Ultimately everyone has different needs and preferences. P2P is no fun if you are on dial-up or low-end cable where it chokes your PC, and a friend complains about how Azureus, while the most featured BitTorrent app he knows (for Mac OS X) is bloated and chokes his computer and connection. I've never had any desire to use BitTorrent, but it has its uses, legal and illegal. Another friend was complaining that his former ISP, Talk Talk, ground BitTorrent traffic to a halt, and a game he'd purchased used it to achieve a major update that he needed. 40 quid spent on a game that his ISP effectively banned him from using. Then again, it cost them a customer!

I try not to police, I tend leave people alone unless they're specifically bothering me, and go worry about something else. Unless they won't quit using RAR files ;P

I really have no problem with the sharing of TV media etc, what worries me is sharing producers material!  I don't think sharing 3 minutes of a film or TV programme is the same as sharing the whole product!  I am FULLY aware of how bit-torrent works!  My main worry is that people will abuse the system, as was the case with wammonkey!  If an upload site not 100% PROPERLY monitored, people will abuse it!

In the case of the wambank, if you can't upload to receive credits, you can buy the credits!  People will moan, but the two main advantages, that site is FULLY moderated, by the way the site works, everyone who gives gets back, even the freeloaders get freebies!

As for your site work on WIR's site, you're right, its not the actions of someone who wants something for nothing!

I thought my post was a little harsh though when I read what I'd posted, sorry about that!

All I want to see in place is full and proper moderating on that torrent site to protect the producers, as thewambank does now!

Personally I love TV wam clips, I would hate to see the sites that share these brought into a rangle over legality, the three minute clips on these share sites are more of a trailer for the movie, rather than the whole movie!  Three minutes from a multi-million pound movie or TV show is no biggie, but, three minutes of a producers work is a lot more damaging to people who fund their shoots and survive on a low budget!

Well, being able to buy them is news to me; when it opened, it seemed to be that no-one was funding it (that's what Steve and I were puzzling over) and you got credits only through uploading. I've never read anything yet to the contrary here.

"Something for nothing" in the context of P2P where the files are legal is bollocks and you know it, Leon. The reason why you have to pay for a site like WetInRed is that bandwidth costs -- over 3000 downloads in under 24 hours just now. That is not free! I've never seen any indications of who's funding TheWamBank -- certainly not the visitors, who upload for credits, not pay. Maybe I missed something that's come up since, but I only read the WWF and Styx forums and I don't believe it was ever mentioned at either.

Since the WamBank cannot hold copyright on clips from the media anyway (since the copyright belongs to the film and TV companies) what is to stop people from using mutual bandwidth from their home connections to share files without draining that of a central site? I don't suppose you even know how BitTorrent works, do you?

And, what, you think having just rebuilt the WetInRed site for Steve (at no cost, it simply needed doing!) counts as the actions of a greedy get-it-for-nothing person?

You can BUY the credits!

All about something for nothing then, as per usual!

I am very concearned about a non-moderated torent site for wetlook!  I will be monitoring it very closely, so you'd better keep a very close eye on what people are uploading!

To clips contributers, don't bother uploading here, you will get no reward for your efforts!  That is the point of the wambank, people who give, get rewarded for doing it!

I don't have a video capture card in my PC (nor any plans to ever have one), I watch far less TV than most (but downstairs, I don't have an aerial anywhere near a computer) so I specifically ignore the WamBank (WAMbank? No-one can decide how to spell it) for this reason. I cannot and will not ever have contributions. I don't have a girlfriend/wife to video and no-one wants to see me wet, so the WamBank (WAMbank?) is of little relevance to me. I can't get any credits for anything but the free downloads.

Thus, a torrent system sounds far better. Instead of rejecting all your clips as duplicates, every duplicate copy of a clip helps improve transfer rate by adding extra people able to share parts of files (seeders? I don't use BitTorrent). Less rigid and regimented. Sounds like a preferred system to me :)

Thanks for the info, but why not use TheWamBank for this?

It's already in place and seems to be working well.

In addition, they have people dedicated to checking that membership videos are not uploaded and shared.
