To be fair though, this spammer is just a thick bot, it hasn't even figured out the html tab yet, thank god!

Dragon's Lair Project has the random code thing.  A word or number appears as a graphic.  It is human readable, but not machine readable.  If you do not enter the code, your post is rejected with the message "you must be human to post on this board".  The only problem is that capital letters and small letters are different to the system, and sometimes it is not easy to tell if the graphic is of a capital letter or a small letter.  The idea of just clicking a box is an interesting one.  I would think that a spambot would be able to figure that out.   Please do not program the message board so that innocently using a certain word causes the system to do an automatic ban or message reject.  Dragon's Lair Project used to do have an automatic ban if you typed the word "cigarette" or "viagra" or several other words in any context, because spam ads for these products were being posted frequently.  Wetset has an auto message reject for certain words.  Nowhere does either site have a list of the prohibited words.  It is too easy for a legitimate user to accidentally spring these computerized booby traps.

I like Leon's idea better.  I think it would be less cumbersome to check a tick than having to put in a code.

Until something is done to eliminate spam, what can't Nigel delete each one that comes across?

Or as you post a message you have to type in a random code.

Hi Nigel

As thse spams are created by spambot programmes, what about the addition of a little tick box?

A little box you have to tick to prove you are human, certainly easier than creating accounts etc, if you could get the code to alter slightly and change the code location of the tick box, it would confuse the spybot!

All the people here would have to do is click a little box that says "I am human", everytime they post, without clicking it, the post does not get made!  Although the feedback to the generator could say that it is, if you know what i mean?

Thanks

Leon
