Weird. In Britain, blank VHS cassettes go up to E240, or four hours. This is the tape length, and thus the short-play capacity. On long play, the capacity doubles to eight hours. Even on our rather naff VCR, the video and audio quality of long play does not suffer especially (the sound is fine, the video is a bit more iffy I suppose), but I guess it may do if you go down to one-third speed as you are suggesting. Long play mostly affects your ability to visually fast-forward or rewind controllably, since it tends to produce a very scrambled picture. Might just be our brand of VCR doing that though. |

By Desert Hawk - Sun 15/10/06 18:18:06 GMT A VHS tape on SP speed is only 2 hours. Almost all commercial tapes are at SP. because it has much better picture and sound quality. SLP aka EP is the slow speed, and provides 6 hours of low quality video and sound like an AM radio. Titanic on VHS is indeed on 2 tapes. I have it |

By Telcontar - mrnemesis@ntlworld.com Sat 14/10/06 22:24:29 GMT The capacity of a VHS cassette is at least four hours (not sure if there's a VHS equivalent to a C120), so unless Titanic was longer (three hours, no?) it should go on tape. In fact, I recorded it onto a tape ... |
In reply to Message (25253.1.1) speaking of Titanic
By Desert Hawk - Sat 14/10/06 21:00:02 GMT Most of us here can truthfully tell women that we loved Titanic. They don't have to know that it has nothing to do with the stupid love story of Rose and Jack! I like all kinds of disaster movies. The wetlook is a nice bonus. The VHS release of Titanic conveniently has the crappy part on tape #1 and the good part on tape #2, except for the ramming of the iceberg. |
In reply to Message (25253.1) Rule #1.Never ever judge whether to blow money on a movie based on Wetlook
By NaturalBornChaos - Sat 14/10/06 20:26:05 GMT The only movie where the wetlook matched the entertainment value was Titanic, and even then, they could have cut the first half of the movie completely off. |

By Russ - russ@russ.net Sat 14/10/06 20:06:47 GMT One of the worst movies I've ever seen, but a few good wetlook scenese in it, especially good for us jeans fans!! The movie is so bad it's not worth wasting a blank DVD on. I was thinking of trying to rip it and some how trim out the good parts into avi's. Is dvd decrypter and some other tools the best way to do this? Or does someone already have these scenes for download? |
