Yes, there really was a wet t-shirt on a plane. It was on one of those caught-on-video shows. The pilots actually organized the contest, and put the plane on autopilot and ABANDONED THE COCKPIT to watch the contest! As soon as the FAA found out about it, their pilots' licenses were revoked. NOBODY WAS FLYING THE PLANE for quite a while. If anything had ahppened that the autopilot couldn't handfle, the plane would have crashed. This was gross dereliction of duty at it's worst. This was before 9-11. Any pilot doing something like that now would probably be sent to Guantanamo for leaving a wide open opportunity for a terrorist to take control of the plane.

Sorry to say that LL can't claim a first. I think there was a forum post about this some time ago, but there was definitely a news item - perhaps a year ago, maybe more, about some folks staging a wet t-shirt contest aboard a plane in flight. I believe at least one of the female flight attendants participated and the male flight crew got at least partially involved in the judging. This has made it's way into internet lore; I may have some of the details wrong or overstated, and have no idea about the consequences for the flight crew, but a high-flying wet t-shirt contest did occur. Perhaps what could be said is that LL may be starting a tradition.
