Not all browsers operate a cache using correct file extensions. This is a sample of my Firefox cache:
0048000Dd01 008C7F1Ed01 02C49BCAd01 02C59BCAd01 02D09BCAd01 02D19BCAd01 02D39BCAd01 02D49BCAd01 02D69BCAd01
iCab on the Mac preserves the original extension but makes up a new name in a similar fashion, Opera 9 also preserves the original file extensions but renames all the files. IE tries to preserve the original filename, although those are generally random on YouTube anyway.
For Firefox, you *could* assume of course that the larger files are FLV files, make copies of them and add ".flv" to the filenames to see if they play. (Files on the order of 6 MB or so apparently). But if you do use the Javimoya or KeepVid sites, Firefox should retrieve the FLV from your cache anyway, it should not download it afresh. It may, it may not, browsers are pretty hopeless about that. IE is the only browser that really likes giving you the cached copy, but, that causes its own problems when you need to see a fresh copy of a page or file someone's just changed ;-) |
