Telcontar, I agree entirely in principle with what you say, however the world is changing and not necessarily for the better. Like it or not, due to many factors the world is becoming a capitalist, consumerist, money oriented society.  I do not advocate this kind of society but I believe undeniably that is waht we are becoming.  I grew up in a small family owned retail jewelry business.  My father  did not just sell jewelery, he sold personal service, and other intangibles like that.  This kind of busines has all but  disappeared in the US.  In Europe you can still find these types of shops but they are disappearing here as well.  In Germany although there are still weekly street markets that sell fruits, vegetables , cheese etc., the large chain supermarkets are cutting into this kind of business.  3 comapanies in Germany control the majority of the grocery stores under various names.  I am sure the same thing is happening in Great Britain.  It would be nice to live in a utopian world where all people cared about was quality and each other but this is not the kind of world we live in today.  The consumers have brought this on themselves by demanding the most product for the least amount of money and quality and service be damned.  To an extent this forum and some of the internet has tried to reclaim this utopian idea.  When I first started surfing the web back in 1996, pay sites were almost unheard of.  Look at th eweb today, who knew in 1996 the killer product on the web would be pornography?  So with the internet we have a dichotomy, there are the free web folks that cling to the idea that everything ahould be shared and free and to an extent that has helped the web grow.  On the other hand we have the people that see the internet as a vast resource to reach millions cheaply and quickly and sell their service.  This also has undeniably helped the internet grow  As time goes on the money making aspects are taking over the idealistic aspects and more and more of the web costs money for what you want.  The social aspects of the web will remain (such as they are, that too can be alienating versus actual, real human contact which is far nicer) but ultimately the true purpose of the internet will be to expand commerce.  That may sound pessimistic but I think history will bear me out.  If the human touch is what you really need, try getting it the old fashioned way and interact, face to face with real humans.  The internet has made the world smaller in so many ways, I along with everyone else on this forum had no idea how many people shared my liking of wetlook.  I really like that.  On the other hand, communicating via email and IM and forum postings is only satisfying to a point.  I am fortuante that I have actually met, in person sveral people that I first encountered on the web and had actual, real social discourse and human interaction with them.

You could make that remark about any facet of human nature including the really depraved aspects, but that does not mean that we have to accept it.

What you probably don't understand is that people are all different about how we work. There's a scale, I suppose, from ruthless businessfolk who are interested in nothing but money (and with no regard as to how it's generated) and the other extreme, people who only care that they're making people happy.

I imagine most of us fall somewhere in the middle. We're social creatures. It's nice to see people smile. It's nice to know that our work has made someone happy. It's nice to talk about what we enjoy. It's nice to share in all the fun with other people.

I have a site of my own. It's not a wetlook site, hence I don't generally put the URL in the "Website" box, I don't want to be accused, even silently in people's minds, of spamming. I've had a site since 2000, and the current site has been around in basically the same form since June 2001. That's about five years. It's full of all kinds of goodies, fun, amusing, nerdy, technical, informative, useful, all kinds. And generally, no-one takes any notice. Not after all these years. I get plenty of hits via Google and other search engines, but I guess no-one finds a thing they want and just leaves.

It's quite an empty existence running a site. I can look at the download counts for various programs on there, but that tells me nothing, everyone could be deleting stuff as soon as they try it out.

Obviously, if you're selling a service, you get paid. Money is useful. Money is nice. But money is not happiness, it's not feedback, it's not even a face, or a person, it's just an empty, distant token. OK, you can reasonably figure that someone is satisfied enough to pay, but the real human touch is not there.

We are social creatures, we like interaction, words, a smiling face. Business success is none of that; successful people in business tend to be some of the most detached from humanity and what it means to be a real person. Yes, they have all the money, but love and true happiness means a lot less.

I understand how Steve feels. I know the emptiness of wondering who's out there. He's luckier than me, he at least gets remunerated for his work *and* gets to film women get wet. The best I can do is check my referrer log and ask Google who links to my site, only to find on both counts that no-one does. Most hits that are not from search engines appear to be bandwidth thieves too fucking lazy to host images they want to nick from my site, elsewhere. I have tons of spare bandwidth so for now I'm not getting cruel with .htaccess.

Sometimes, the human touch is all we really need.

WIR et al,

Have you stopped to consider this?  I for one don't care for the LL pictures, the resolution is poor and the girls do not appeal to me.  Rather than post a complaint I don't say anything.  Nothing wrong with that.  Secondly, LL is a pay site, with a few free samples.  Now my idea of consumer products is if people buy them then they like the product, if they don't they won't buy.  Consider that scourge of America, Wal Mart.  They provide things people want at a low price.  You don't see Wal Mart complaining in a newspaper that nobody wrote letters to them about thier latest sales flyer do you?  Of course not.  People vote with their pocketbook.  So, to all of the pay site producers that complain that people aren't thanking them for the free picture now and then, don't worry about it.  If site memberships are going up, you must be giving them something they like.  If members are dropping out and nobody is loining, you must not be providing what people want to see.  I think part of the problem is most pay site producers are hobbyists that are trying to recoup some expenses and maybe trying to make a couple of bucks.  That is O.K. but don't think folks are going to flock to your site just because it is there.  MK and Erik Elsas are two producers that have been around a long time and have developed a business out of it more than a hobby.  I doubt they are getting rich but they obviously spend a lot of time and effort, especially MK trying to bring what the people want to the internet.  They work hard at irt and are always trying new things and different stuff.  I don't believe I have ever heard either of them complain about anything.  I remember when Leon Moomin first started out and he used to whine quite a bit about lack of thanks or attention or whatever.  Well did Leon give up?  No, he just plugged along and continues to push the wetlook envelope, producing some great stuff, even jeans and pants which he hates but knows others like them.

I have maintained a small free site for a couple of years now, and we get some feedback from it.  I appreciate the comments.  I put up the site and pay a small sum to keep it on the web, not so I can get gratification from happy viewers (which we are always happy to see) but to give back in my own small way to the community that has given so much to me.

I guess the bottom line to WIR and others that feel slighted is this:  If you are getting customers then who cares what  people say or don't say.  If there is a problem, well just don't post stuff anymore.  Last I checked, Nigel has adds on the site but he doesn't charge a penny (or pence) for all of the advertising producers get in the forum postings.  When people are running a pay site and complaining about a lack of attention, well that just rubs me the wrong way.  For the folks like JetWet and others that put up lots of free material, just accept the fact that most people even though they may like what they see are not going to say thanks.  Many famous artists died penniless and unappreciated such as Vincen Van Gogh.  Just accept that human nature isn't going to change and leave it at that.

...like post #23844 can generate so much response, when MK's Flav's and my post's below generate nothing Sad Just boggles my mind to the point of why fucking bother with it anymore. I try to tell myself to not pay attention to the lack of responses and I tell y'all too. But I'm finding out more and more that I just can't handle it anymore.
