This is the page you want to read:

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/cmd.mspx?mfr=true

I find cmd an abomination so I don't pay it much attention ;) So it would seem like those command-line parameters are not needed for anything. I did a test using HTTP Werkzeug and found that to be the case -- so I presume you received the same errors as me but it didn't matter as they don't seem to serve much of a purpose anyway :) This worries me more:

Ref2=http://10.1.1.74:80/vidilife/video/2006/1/9/227037/346062.wmv?MSWMExt=.asf

Like that is going to work, mate.

As for the video, hm I can see where, as a woman, you won't really find it the most appealing thing to watch! It's not that great, nothing much seems to happen.

Thank you for thinking I would use some Unix, but no, unfortunately not. I'm sitting on Win XP here. The last recent statements form Microsoft (DRM, WGA and such) make me think about changing to Linux, but then, my job is Windows software development...

With the "&" you are probably right, although they say in http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/cmd.mspx that multiple commands on a line have to be separated by "&&". I'm not an experienced mplayer user, so maybe one has to quote the URL or to rewrite the "&" or something. I got some error messages to after dumping the stream, hm, ignored them.

Finally, if no one here asks it seems all who are intereted are happy. If not - don't care, the clip is not worth the effort in my opinion.

I don't have mplayer (just mplayerc) but I was curious to test the instructions. Windows 2000 accepts a command that long (whereas 128 chars probably is a COMMAND.COM limit in Win 9x), but apparently, & is a command separator in Windows NT (-> NT/2k/XP), so every & in the URL starts a new command and it throws up a ton of errors:

'noStream' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

operable program or batch file.

'tinystreamingserver' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

operable program or batch file.

'vchrMediaProgramIDCryp' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

operable program or batch file.

'intAdID' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

operable program or batch file.

I even tested it with a really simple made-up filename:

>"c:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe" Cass-A&B.mp3

'B.mp3' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

operable program or batch file.

I guess Winamp was asked to play "Cass-A", it never complained.

This works:

>"c:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe" "Cass-A&B.mp3"

I am guessing you're a UNIXer since, what, that's ; as a command separator. I don't have mplayer so I can't and won't try the download, but it just got me thinking that you can't be a Windows user, I figure you must be too leet for that :-)

So Windows 9x' maximum command line length is 128? Silly.

Try to omit all characters behind the filename in the URL (starting with '&'), maybe that's enough for the server.

This command line appears to be too long for Windows to handle.  It gets truncated to just:

mplayer -dumpstream -dumpfile dump1.wmv -playlist http://streaming3.vidilife.com/vidilife/video/2006/1/9/227037/346062.wmv&noSt

Any other suggestions?

To get the stream as a file, download and install mplayer from www.mplayerhq.hu/, then run the following from the command line (put all into one line):
mplayer -dumpstream -dumpfile dump1.wmv -playlist http://streaming3.vidilife.com/vidilife/video/2006/1/9/227037/346062.wmv&noStream=0&tinystreamingserver=3&vchrMediaProgramIDCryp=45413784-6598-40FF-B93A-7&intAdID=0
Note: it takes about 3 minutes to download, it's a stream.
For me, BTW, the video looks kinda boring. However, have fun with it.
