Thanks for the compliments. I must say that I do agree with you about the slanted camera photos. Every time I see one of these I twist my head around trying to put the picture upright ... LOL. |

By MaK - Thu 01/06/06 00:03:06 GMT Sorry that both you and Stormy regard my comments that way, but when I saw the pictures I actually felt quite sorry for the girl. Young, extremely beautiful, hired by a man probably old enough to be her dad, to do something, which she obviously don't like. It is completely different with Jennifer. I guess it is actually quite difficult to keep her out of the water!
Of course everybody do not need to shoot pictures the same way, that's why I suggested Stormy NOT to use slanted camera!!! Today it has become the new craze and everybody is using this effect no matter if it looks good or bad. WetlookPro and Tyra's site has hardly shoot a single picture with upright camera! I remember Steven Spielberg talking about a special effect he had used in Jaws, where he zoomed in and out on the main person, but simultaneously moved the camera in such a way that the size of the person was unchanged. Only the background changed. He said that he knew that effect, but wanted to save it for the right moment. One single use of this effect in two films. A top photographer knows his toolbox and selects the exact right tool for the job. Less good photographers just do what everybody else is doing.
You have shot some excellent pictures in the nature. The morning at the lake with the soft light, the red dress in the mountain pond and the bridal gown in the lake where the sun just strikes Jennifer and nothing else. It may be luck, but to my opinion these series are above the average Stormy level, and you are only doing this for fun. He is on OMP among some of the world’s best photographers. You are always hurt by a little kick in the ash, but sometime it makes you think! That little banal rule with looking through the viewer before you shoot is really not that bad if you want to be among the best!

By Todd - jet@jetwetfun.com Wed 31/05/06 06:56:33 GMT LOL, sounds like you got it all. You're pics are great, Stormy. Opinions, opinions. Some think theirs are always right. It's good we don't all shoot photos the exact same way, isn't it? If we did, we wouldn't have much variety out there now would we.
Oh yeah, where was that dump anyway? I went back to look and didn't see it. I thought maybe the first time a beautiful model caught my eye and I didn't even see the background. |

By Stormy Waters - Wed 31/05/06 06:00:02 GMT OK, let me see if I have my instructions correct:
1. Shoot only girls who are smiling. 2. Don't use any slanted cameras. 3. No dumps in the background. (Q: Since it was actually an abandoned rail yard, shall I assume no rail yards either?) 4. Let this model "go". 5. Forget "it". 6. Don't do anything absolutely silly. 7. Don't do "everything" to make a picture more exciting. 8. Look more carefully through the viewer before I shoot. 9. Be more like a real master.
Thanks. I'll try to get better next time. |

By MaK - Tue 30/05/06 23:08:32 GMT That's the problem with photography - the model can't hide whether she likes it or not! She is a beauty end looks great in that sweater dress, but let her go or wait until summer. If the girl likes it, it will show - even without a big smile. Just look at this:

If the girl doesn't like it, forget it!
I know I get flamed for my comment to your photographical technique, but why use a dump as background for a beautiful girl in a nightdress, and why has slanted camera become so popular? When you shoot the picture, the brain will still regard the picture as being upright no matter how much you slant the camera, but when the picture is shown, it looks absolutely silly. Some photographers do everything to make a picture more exciting, but the real masters just looks more carefully through the viewer before they shoot!

By Stormy Waters - Tue 30/05/06 15:18:03 GMT No, you're right. Somewhere in modeling school, they must teach you not to smile. She has a fun personality. Next time we shoot, I'll see if I can bring out her smile. (Of course, she might say: you try smiling when you're freezing your butt off!!) |
In reply to Message (22738.5.5) could be a beauty - with a smile...
By the chiller - Tue 30/05/06 14:58:22 GMT Yeah, she's got a good body & face. But if she can't smile, I can't feel anything at all. Good works though, on a high level of photography. Thanks 4 sharin' - please don't hate me now... ;) |
