I can't predict what my life will be like in October, but you're tempting me. What will probably happen is that I'll forget all about it within .... 5 minutes? But if I had a good way to remind myself about it I would definitely give it more thought. It would be like a virginal pool party for me -- i.e. never done it before -- but I guess I have to start somewhere. But you need to get those woman engineers along, I still see a perspective of the world that women and computers don't mix.

I am sure I also mentioned this before, but whether you saw it I don't know: but I used to take baths and showers in girls/woman's clothes as a kid (used to borrow my mum's and sister's from the washing basket), but I'm not sure why. Probably a surrogate for having a girl with me, but it's probably also curiousity as women's clothes look a bit more fun to get wet in and nicer looking in the process. Nowadays I don't, though.

It would be damn funny to buy a skirt and turn up wearing it, and it would save money on the entry fee, but ... uh ... yeah ...

Anyway, we'll see. London is no problem for me to get to, either, I live very close by. Maybe I'll come along.

Thanks for explaining that -- at least you're confident enough to mention why. I also am shy in unfamiliar situations (such as offices or business meetings, being by orientation an engineer geek!), but have over an interval of a few years allowed the great passion generated by clothed swimming to overcome my uncertainty of other people's opinions of me (after all, their opinion is a property of them, not of me, so it mustn't burden me!) Sadly, I'm slightly ''emotionally immature'' when it comes to my expectations of other people's reactions to my attempts to give them happiness, which is probably one reason why I've never married...

Yay for the internet (or before it, Prestel and bulletin boards!), an alternative reality (not an alternative *to* reality hehehe), where one can chat and exchange meaningful emotions with others without the fear of rejection or physical domination. I do find (talking about girls) that most of the women I know in the ''public real world'' (as opposed to the ''internet real world'') are geeks anyway, as computing is a fairly unisex subject :-) Virtually none of them (well so far literally none of them!) have actually come to one of the pool parties however :-| (To be honest, that was my original intention with my ''£8. in skirts, £16. in trousers'' tagline, without appearing sexist...) Prolly because they're afraid to be the only woman who turns up, which would be mega-embarrassing.

About crossdressing... I've worn drag in the bath for years (yes that's a fetish, even if clothed swimming isn't), but in the context of clothed pool parties it's just an extension of being unconventional! Hence the wedding dress I wore at the millennium pool party hehehe... There aren't many places one can get away with it safely; the only other places in the public world I've swum in drag is at Brighton Pride and at my health club; it's just too outrageous for even those public pools that allow teeshirts hehehe... I know a few other people who swim in drag, and am just therefore extending the opportunity to them (again, nobody except me has yet taken it up at the previous pool parties). And crossdressing isn't necessarily related to being ''gay''; I'm androgynous/bisexual but still prefer women to men (though have been with both if I'm allowed to say that here), to me it's just a way of unifying the feminine anima with the masculine animus (hey, maybe clothed swimming in drag really belongs on a ''Tantra'' forum!)

Swimming-wise, a couple of the other SWAMP members can't swim either! In fact I was fairly so-so when at school, although my first real girlfriend was the best swimmer in the class! (in fact that maybe where I subconsciously picked-up the clothed swimming ''addiction'' and possibly the associated drag ''fetish'' from...) So please don't let that put you off! Unfortunately you missed the free one, but if I get enough people interested (ideally 15 but 10 will do) this year, there may be another one next year :-) (If insufficient user demand occurs again on this one, there will definitely be no more, sadly)

SW, FW, and BH :-)

I've certainly see the posts about pool parties, but so far I've not decided that I want to go. Why, I am not 100% sure. I figure it's a variety of reasons.

Firstly, I'm just shy. I'm not strongly sociable (and small talk is at the very least meaningless, if not oppressively irritating) so it is a scary challenge trying to socialise with all unfamiliar people -- who are probably not all geeks and nerds who are the only folk I can really get on with -- and trying not to ogle all the girls or have them destroy my concentration. If some of the girls were techie/nerdy it would be substantially easier to honour them as human beings with proper conversation than stare at them! Maybe I'd find that it would actually go really smoothly, but I cannot be sure.

Continuing to be frank, the cross-dresser side of the subject scares me. I don't want to have to look at cross-dressing men (which I think you indicated takes place at your events). It does not mean that I have a problem with them conceptually; I get repulsed by normal hardcore porn too! I am not against homosexuality or cross-dressing and favour people being able to do whatever they want as long as it's consentual and safe, heck, a bisexual man in Tennessee has just tricked me into taking nude photos of myself and showing him and I find it amusing, but I'd still feel substantially more comfortable if the pool was populated with heterosexual couples. I'd also be very worried if everyone was drinking -- drunk people's unpredictability and weirdness scares me and I want a sober environment. Smoking I would have to just suck up to I guess.

I also would need to find a way to get out of the house and back without revealing what was up. Seeing as I'm going to be honest and open here, I still live with my parents, who are prudish, and being also astonishingly self-conscious in person, they know little of my real nature and I'm hardly going to tell them, oh I'm going to go swimming with all my clothes on with a bunch of strangers.

Finally it might kill the fun that I cannot swim. So I'd have to stay in the shallow part of the pool. Just the water pushing your body around when you start entering the deep end is mortally scary!

It's a pity that a pool party cannot be arranged in "safer" and more compatible circumstances, as it would be a great laugh otherwise. But the invitation to us all was kind all the same. Maybe one day I'll be ready to come join you. For the time being, I'll just invent harebrained schemes like updating Wikipedia that mean I'm also jumping in the deep end of what I can handle in that side of things.

Sorry, Telcontar, a few years ago I would have been absolutely delighted to have written about this! However, due to the subject's intense emotional nature, it is felt that I could no longer give justice to a write-up about clothed swimming (for that, rather than ''wetlook'', is my main involvement in the genre). Why so? I tend to be one of those OCD all-or-nothing personas, who when attention is focussed at the point of interaction (for example playing in what was Trafalgar Square, before UK destroyed its atmosphere, or at the beach subject to the weather) could be absorbed for hours in the delights of both getting wet and sharing this with others. However, the public world has decided it no longer wants to play, and hence, attention has now been withdrawn from the public world to what I now realize is the *real* world, the world of conscious experience -- i.e. I have been forced back into the closet by the attitude of J Random Public. This is not just due to the lack of response to my repeated twice-yearly attempt to organize pool parties (see http://forum.minxmovies.com/showc.cgi?22626 below for example) to share my love of getting wet with other like-minded humans; nor solely due to UK's new attitude (particularly since 9-11) to ''non-normals'' (which the great boring mass of ''normals'' often regards as puerile if not neurotic); but also an essential spiritual defence mechanism in order to preserve whatever little of the original magic there still is left, and nurture it in a philosophical framework where it can grow and flourish, not be slagged off and belittled by others :-|

I hope you aren't too disappointed by my response!

Or maybe explain to me what the text on each page should say, if you don't know how to work with a wiki (they're fiddly bastards to understand)

Glad you mentioned that :-) I've always felt that there's a big difference between swimming (or getting wet) in clothes, and looking at other people getting (or being) wet. That's prolly one reason why the genre (I won't call it a fetish, because I don't believe it is only a fetish!) is so confused by the general public.

It is clear from events at swimming pools and theme parks, that many more people enjoy getting wet themselves, than watching others getting wet from afar. Also the public don't regard the first as weird or kinky (unless the clothes become transparent or the intention is sexual), whereas the second is often regarded as odd by most people :-|

This also leads to the well-known ''percentage of wetlookers equation''... Far more than ten thousand people enjoy getting wet in their clothes! More like twenty percent of the population I reckon have enjoyed it at least once in their lives, often as children, because most adults are so closed-minded, and worried about other people's opinion of them (so-called ''dignity'').

Still thinking about this Wikipedia article, and trying to track down a good example of a wet clothing photograph.

I've been struck with a thought -- is there not a distinct difference between wet clothing (e.g. Nasse Klamotten, Wet Clothing Club Berlin, NJCO) and wetlook (e.g. modelled wetlook, candid wet pics)? Wetlook is all about how people other than oneself look, but when you swim in clothes for fun, that is wet clothing -- you're doing it for the experience, not the look.

As such, should these not be kept as separate articles in Wikipedia? And if so, do I now need a new second picture to illustrate the wetlook article? And of what?

And does anyone here feel qualified to write an article about wet clothing as an activity? I barely feel qualified to work on the wetlook article as I know so very little about wetlook really, but it's always the least qualified people who end up having to do it :P
