You're right, we don't have a problem with it per-se. People who want to support us in the long term are being fair with us, so we want to be fair back.

If you are on a dial up then it makes sense to use a DL manager.

I think were we would draw the line is if we spotted somebody joining and cancelling every few months and downloading Gigabytes and Gigabytes of material.

Apologies for not being DL manager friendly- it's not something we took into consideration when we designed the site : )

So I guess your point is, as long as I am a long term member (I am) my occasional bursts of activity on your site don't really hurt you.  In the case of your particular site, it is about the least DL manager friendly site I have ever used, with your javascript pictures, non-sequential numbers, changing photo addresses within a photo series, etc. Not complaining.  I will probably get everything you have eventually, but I have a year to do it so I am in no hurry.  Your points show it is advantageous for the webmaster to offer some sort of long term, cheaper than month by month membership.

It is because of the issues that you raised that I asked the question in the first place.  Living on dial up due to my geographic location, this DL manager makes a huge difference to me and has made me much more willing to join pay sites.

One further point.

We're aware of these download managers being used- they are easily spotted when they are.

The members who use this type of software on on our site are all long term term members which means that they are behaving responsibly and so we leave them to it.

Having said that, because we leave the archive intact and most of the members sign up for long term subscriptions, there are few benefits from using them unless you are on a dial up connection- because we are primarily a video site most members are on broadband.

There's little difference between reviewing what you want on-line and downloading everything, (filling up your hard drive) and then having to wade through it all deleting what you don't want later.

Most of our members, because they know it will always be there for them, are in no mad rush to get the material- they take their time, review on line and then download whatever they like. This has the benefit of keeping bandwidth charges lower- which enable us to use resources in producing more material- plus it speeds up the download process for other members.

Our view is that if you have paid for it, then you are entitled to it. We do have the option to block this kind of harvesting, but we don't.

It does raise some moral issues, the site is built up gradually week by week and we leave our archive intact for the benefit of our memebers. They support us by their regular contribution, without which we wouldn't be able to finance new shoots or the cost of running a powerful server.

The thought of someone signing up for the cheapest, shortist period possible and then cleaning out the site of every scrap of material is not very nice. It essentially means that these people will effectively be subsidised by the rest of the membership- members of this community.

Secondly, bandwidth is not unlimited, so you could have situation where people are harvesting material they do not particularly want to see, just because it's there, at the same time they are slowing down the other members who are trying to download material they particularly want. Again, if we are a community there has to be some consideration given to other members within that community.

Whether with wetlook, or anything else, a really good way to judge if something is right or not, is to ask the question "what if everybody else did what I'm doing?"

If the answer is, "if everyone did it, it would create problem for me" there it's a fair bet that whatever you're doing is going to create a problem for someone else.

The question then remains as whether you care about other people or not, in that regard it's a moral issue that only the individual can decide.

Like any of us reading this message board, I enjoy looking at images of wet girls. On occasion I will join pay sites where such images are available.  In the past, I was always sort of reluctant to join sites because it meant hours spent downloading the content, and if I missed anything I felt like I had not gotten my full value.  then I discovered download managers.

With a download manager, depending on how the site is constructed, I can "harvest" an entire set of pictures with just a couple of mouse clicks.  The DL manager queues all the pictures on a page, and downloads them and saves them to whatever folder I specify.  Multiple pictures with the same name?  No problem, it changes the names of them for me (to "image name (1)", "image name (2)", etc).  It has totally changed my surfing habits, because I can start it up just before I go to bed at night and it will download all night for me, or all day while I am at work.  Works really well, the DL manager I have will even sign back on to my internet in case I get bumped.

Now my question is directed at paysite operators (you know who you are); does this hurt you guys?  For someone to come in, log onto your site and harvest a couple of thousand pictures at a time?  Or if you are a newer site, for me to download your entire content in a matter of a few hours?  For me, I am much more likely to join your site if I know I can get my fill of what you offer, and not have to worry about spending hours in front of my screen, clicking and saving and renaming files.

I have used it for nefarious purposes, such as I joined a site that was more porn with limited wet content (but quite a bit of wet content, and what they had was pretty good).  Rather than wade through acres of thumbnails, I basically downloaded all they had to offer, then sorted it out later.  On one site, this meant over 10,000 pictures I downloaded, on a cheap three day trail membership.  And I did this on a dial up connection (and not a terribly good one at that).  I don't behave that way on accepted wet sites, but they don't offer three day memberships either...
