Middle-clicking on a link (that is, click the scroll wheel as a button!) opens a link in a new tab in most cases*, or you can drag a link to the tab bar or into another tab. Dragging the link stops the referer being sent, so sites can't tell how you reached their site and won't block you. Faster than doing copy and paste :) Middle-click does not do this. You can also set whether the tab created with middle-click gets focused, or remains in the background; I prefer for it to remain in the background so that I can middle-click a bunch of links on the current page to review separately in a minute.
Middle-clicking on a tab should close it (I think that's a built-in feature)
I think 1.5 lets you drag tabs around to re-arrange them if they're not open in the order you want, but not yet use the scroll wheel to cycle them (that's a separate extension still you have to add)
Personally I've added extensions for undoing closing a tab, cycling tabs by rolling the mousewheel over the tab bar, and making a click on the active tab, or closing of said tab, take me back to the last one I was in. Firefox lets you add features that make page navigation a lot easier than some other browsers like Safari or iCab, although middle-click for new tab appears to work in both of those too.
* except if it's a dreaded JavaScript link, like javascript:show_pic(9); |
In reply to Message (22400.1.1) Thanks for the firefox tip!
By Tricky Trev - Fri 12/05/06 23:47:42 GMT I never knew you could do that!! |
In reply to Message (22400.1) Another copy and paste job, but Firefox users note...
By Telcontar - mrnemesis@ntlworld.com Fri 12/05/06 20:54:36 GMT Website: http://telcontar.net/ In cases like these, with Firefox, it's easier to simply drag the link into the tab bar at the very end, where a new tab will be created for the page (or image as the case may be)! iCab users in Mac OS will need to hold cmd and drag to the tab bar. |
