Hm, I fed the URL to HTTP Werkzeug and the MIME type is image/jpeg. HW Win32 is no good for binary data analysis but it's certainly not HTML, XML or JavaScript code -- it's all binary data.
Of course, it could be something like a program in disguise, so I downloaded it to disc via HW Mac -- a program I wrote and am 100% sure doesn't fall for any tricks -- and opened it on my Mac OS 9 box. What I get ... is a woman in the shower. A Shower Girlz photo, I think, the pouty woman in a yellow nightdress.
The server is "Apache/2.0.52 (Fedora) ..." so I doubt it's infected with a Windows worm, and thus I'm curious how the gentleman who replied previously managed to receive adverts and spyware from a JPEG image. The response from the server is unchanged if I set HW to spoof being Internet Explorer 6 for Windows.
Anonymous: you sure it's not something on your own computer that's causing this? I am so not familiar with spyware tricks, but I'm a little puzzled by why the server would send /me/ a photo and send certain other people, spyware, especially when I spoof being IE, the primary browser that is targeted. Does this sort of practice occur? |
