As a customer of wetlook, I've got to say, I've been a member of all of those producers' sites at one time or another and I think they have marvelous material.
As a producer of wetlook, I can tell you that what I charge, how much content is included in each update & the frequency of the updates are all driven by an attempt on my part to break even. When I have better than average periods, I've spent more money on better, more experienced models, and the response has been outstanding to those models, so I know there's a difference. When I've had slower periods, I've either coughed up money from my own pocket or cancelled shoots. Honestly, I don't know exactly how other producers operate, but I suspect there are quite a few who can very much relate to my experience.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that most (not all, but most in my estimation) wetlook sites are market driven. It's just that the market is significantly smaller than I think many fully appreciate. I think there is an expectation among some in the wetlook community who expect wetlook paysites to be as big as mainstream sites. But mainstream paysites have a much larger market & therefore have much more resources available to them. I knew going in that wetlook wasn't exactly a huge community, per se, but I know I didn't fully appreciate just how small it really is until I had my own site statistics to gander. The amount of money a wetlook site brings in is usually very proportional to the amount it spends and those two amounts are usually very close to even.
Based on my experience, I'm willing to bet that there are few, if any, that actually make a profit. So, my advice to the average wetlook consumer would be to patronize the sites you feel offer you a good value for your money. Keep in mind, different people define value very differently. Some think there is value strictly in the outfits featured, others find value in the models, some find value in the sheer volume of wetlook. So, if a site has been around a while, either that producer is spending a lot of their own dough to keep it going, or there are people out there who find value in it and support it.
I don't think everyone is going to share my thoughts, and that's okay. I just wanted to contribute to what I think is a worthy conversation...provided of course, that it stays a conversation and doesn't descend into a shouting match. :-)

By Don - Wed 29/03/06 16:52:49 GMT Currently I am a member of StyxWetWorld and Leonmoomin.net and I cannot figure out what you are talking about. But neither is a casual clothes site, either. Both sites have deep archives and many videos as well. I love to download the hi-res videos from the sites and then use MS Moviemaker to capture still pictures of my choosing. It is great fun and the new hi-res videos produce excellent stills (in case you haven't tried.) I am not saying what you say is not true but there are many sites that preview all their sets with thumbnails or samples so you should know what you are getting before you sign up. When I cannot get a good preview of a site I leave and don't intend to sign up. |
In reply to Message (21499) Constructive criticism of wl producers
By Shadow - Wed 29/03/06 15:53:38 GMT With all respect! I think many wet look producers seems to be quite greedy. They offer you a membership, and when you log in, you find that the page rarely updates, the archives are very often small and when they update it is like 10 more pictures from one of the excising sets.
I have been a member of many wet look pages during the last 6 years. I think I have more or less been the member of every wetlook pages that there are out ther.
Some of the producers though are very skilled, while other pure amatours more or less photographing their aunt and wife. Both in skills and attitude ( read their posts on this forum).
My preference and liking has lately attracted me to Erik Elsas work, Styx Denmin and WS-net. For everyone that are into casual clothing and jeanswear you should take a closer look at these producers.
However. My personal feeling is that besides Erik Elsas pages. Styx and WS are barely worth the membership cost. Not because of the quality of their work, as I said its absolutely superb! But.. The archives are very small and the update frequency and the actual content of an update are also very limited. Very often it is like part 2 of a set and then part 3 of another set that has been out for months. And the total amount of sets is very limited. I see pictures in the free galleries. And when I register, Those sets have been deleted or removed 2 months ago.
I was also very disappointed as a member of WS net. To log in and the only discover that I had to pay an additional cost for every video! That is one great membership! I also remember being a member of that page once. And a year after the membership was canceled I became a member again and there was barely updates.
Now. The wet look producers should watch and learn highly professional sites and successful producers like this: (Porn site link removed - Nigel) 68.000 images online! That is worth the payment!
Seriously I don’t expect the wetlook producers to enter this league. But come on. 12 picturesets and 3 months to complete a few new ones that’s not good enough when you charge hard earned cash!
The producers seems very upset every time someone posts a picture or two illegal on other pages.
I happen to wonder how many producers of wetlook that actually pays the PRS and license fee for the music they put onto their videos ? :P
This was meant as constructive criticism and please don’t start a flame war or anything.
