Here are a couple of reference pics from those other 2 movies I quoted that have a similar dunking scene to SULLIVANS TRAVELS...
here is a drunk Lana Turner....being picked up by Kirk Douglas...about 10 seconds before he dumps her into the pool to sober her up...from THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL (1952)
http://badassmovieimages.com/daily/images/bad-and-the-beautiful-1000-1.jpg
and here is Indian actress Merle Oberon, in a still...just before Gary Cooper picks her up and tosses her into the pool...from THE COWBOY AND THE LADY (1938)

If the direct links don't work, then cut and paste.
FYI...none of these 3 movies are rare...they are all out on VHS and DVD and commonly aired on the TCM channel in the USA. I have the clips on several tapes.

By MK - wamtec@compuserve.com Tue 13/12/05 16:49:05 GMT FYI....don't be misled by that pic....i.e. where Veronica is wearing a swimsuit....that pic comes from the 2nd dunking that takes place ...it is the first dunking scene where she is in a dress...and then she goes inside and changes to a swimsuit and bathrobe and then later Joel McCrea dunks her a 2nd time in the pool....so ignore that pic from the 2nd dunking...it's the first dunking that is worth seeing.

By Anonymous - Tue 13/12/05 08:42:13 GMT Veronica Lake- wonderful looking woman. Thanks for reminding me of a fabulous wetlook memory. One of those moments when you couldn't believe that this gorgeous woman would go into the pool fully clothed and that is just what she did ... |

By Bruno - Tue 13/12/05 07:57:15 GMT Anybody seen this movie?
Sullivan's Travels (1941)
............. "Where is the swimming pool? You must have a swimming pool." There's also an outdoor dining room and barbecue, tennis court, grape arbor and grove. Turning furious for fooling her and "making fun of a poor girl" by impersonating a "washed-up director," she pushes him into the pool: "Hey you big fat-head...That's for your swimming pools and your tennis courts and your limousines and your barbecues. That's for making fun of a poor girl who only tried to help you, you big faker..."
He grabs her by the ankle and pulls her into the pool - she screams as she hits the water. Shortly after, they are eating an elegant breakfast served poolside by the butler and valet. While their clothes are drying, each wear white terry-cloth bathrobes. The Girl shows off her gorgeous legs. She mocks his "noble experiment" - a rich Hollywood director experiencing what it's like to be poor: "You've taken all the joy out of life. .............
