WoW Just read all of these, and see the valid argument to stop dumping raw, untreated sewage in our Oceans. Just a few comments, growing up on a farm and with all of these warnings against swimming in farm ponds with cattle e coli and urine present, we never became sick nor developed any unusual symtoms. Maybe we were just lucky. Then this brings to mind my beautiful friend Sandy. We had been walking in a heavy rain on a rain slick sidewalk, did have an umbrella, the point being that I have a thing for stockings and high heels.. which she was wearing at that time. (very appealing slender legs/ankles folks!) Gathering the courage to ask, I suggested we dare to step off the curb into a flood of water which was deeply running to the tops of the curbs. She declined, and when asked why not, she answered, "if it were clean water I would love to, and would.. (in those exact words) I hope you realize all the filth from the street goes in there?". I had to accept her reason, although greatly disappointed. Interesting her issue was not getting wet in heels and stockings, it was a matter of cleanliness.

But oh well, more people probably die in cars driving to the beach or from choking on pretzels. Think about it that way.

Dealy bacteria . . .

Did any of you hear about the two people who died after swimming in a pond somewhere in the southern U.S. They died from some bacteria that lived in the water, a naturally occuring one that lives in warm, stagnant water. When I read that, I thought of all the swampy places I've jumped in, and I thought of all of you. Did anyone else see that? I hate to have to worry about it . . .

Water Quality

I love to go swimming during the winter. I live close to San Francisco and typically go to the closeby reservoirs rather than the ocean (which is much colder). I noticed that when the official swim area get opened towards summer time, the state always performs water quality checks and frequently delays openings due to water quality concerns. I heard that water run-offs into the reservoirs during the rainy season decrease the water quality. Now when I go swimming all bundled up in winter clothes I typically do that outside of the official swim areas, which means that often cattle is peeing and pooing close by. And in rerservoirs there is little to no flowing water.

Should I be concerned about health issues? Any feedback is higly appreciated!
