mpeg 1 is bad.. really bad cos 240x360 resolution max... it is also known as VCD(video CD) in east asia.. we've been enduring it b4 the advent of mpeg2 from dvd's..

with the pc, we're open to all kind of format and I do agree that divx aka mpeg4 is good.. very good resolution vs file size format.. even the new dvd players in the market has started to support divx format...

qtime, wmv n etc is good for live video streming as speed is more important than quality.. for quality, mpeg2 n 4 is way superior... dixv player says divx is optimized for ati... but i notice no difference on my ati card pc vs friends nvidia cards pc

I hate such a bad formats as QuickTime MOV, Microsoft WMV, ASF and others like OGM, MKV...

Why bother with specific players and incompatible formats if you can encode MPEG4/DivX in AVI? And if your video is anyway not in broadcast quality, try .MPG (MPEG1). It's compatible with any computer and even many hardware players.

Quicktime and its MOV format is much LESS universal than WMV based on installed base, if the truth be known. Quicktime MOV is Apple's format, of course WMV is Microsoft's format. So basically 95% or so of the computers in the world come ready to play WMV out of the box, and about 5% or less come ready to play MOV out of the box. Yes, you can download a quicktime player for Windows from http://www.apple.com/quicktime but you can just as easily download Windows Media Player for Macintosh at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/software/Macintosh/osx/default.aspx

Just don't fall for Apple's hype that MOV is somehow more "universal" than WMV, because that's simply not true.
