I hate such a bad formats as QuickTime MOV, Microsoft WMV, ASF and others like OGM, MKV... Why bother with specific players and incompatible formats if you can encode MPEG4/DivX in AVI? And if your video is anyway not in broadcast quality, try .MPG (MPEG1). It's compatible with any computer and even many hardware players. |
In reply to Message (17386.2) Quick Time, Universal format??? haha, NOT
By FountainFrolic - Fri 29/07/05 15:18:01 GMT Quicktime and its MOV format is much LESS universal than WMV based on installed base, if the truth be known. Quicktime MOV is Apple's format, of course WMV is Microsoft's format. So basically 95% or so of the computers in the world come ready to play WMV out of the box, and about 5% or less come ready to play MOV out of the box. Yes, you can download a quicktime player for Windows from http://www.apple.com/quicktime but you can just as easily download Windows Media Player for Macintosh at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/software/Macintosh/osx/default.aspx
Just don't fall for Apple's hype that MOV is somehow more "universal" than WMV, because that's simply not true.
