Last year there was a posting about two Canadian girls taking a fully clothed swim in a NY reservoir; two onlookers saw them and thought there was an emergency and called the police, resulting in helicopters, divers and ultimately arrest.

A couple of years before that, a man went for a clothed swim of the coast in N Ireland and onlookers alerted the coastguard thinking he was committing suicide.

I have either tried clothed bathing after dark, in a secluded spot or more recently with my Wife, although she has not gone in fully yet.  Clothed swimming with one's Partner is best because generally, any onlookers that may be around tend to assume it is a couple in love getting carried away with the moment.  The last time I tried something like this with my Wife down in Southsea, there were two other female swimmers in Jeans and T shirts and three Asian females wading in Jeans.  We did not stand out at all under those circumstances.
