This is an issue which seems to keep coming up here.
One possible solution to problem: if you don't agree with candid, look for another forum. I don't think it is appropriate to go beating up on someone for doing what is within the limits of "acceptable behaviour" for this forum. Given all that has gone on before, I don't think it makes much sense to lobby for a change in forum policy, either. There is another forum (I shall not name it here) which adheres to a policy of "no candid", so there are alternatives.
My own position is somewhat divided. Sometimes candid pictures leave me with an uncomfortable feeling - that somehow the photographer has done something wrong, and I am doing something equally wrong by enjoying the result. On the other hand, these are people in public places where there is no expectation of privacy. Whether these people are observed directly by others nearby, or indirectly via photos or video recordings should be irrelevant. With the UK apparently toughening up on personal privacy laws, it seems something of a contradiction is developing given that the average UK citizen/visitor/tourist is being more closely scrutinized than ever before, with so many security cameras in so many places. I wonder who watches all those tapes, and how many people might secretly be enjoying candid moments caught on security video instead of looking out for the bad guys.
And just for perspective: labels such as "lecherous pervert" have been placed on the subscribers of magazines such as Playboy. Sometimes it says more about the person doing the labelling than it does about the person being labelled.

By tricky dicky - Sat 23/07/05 18:53:04 GMT Would the term Lecherous pervert be too strong?
Don't get me wrong I love wetlook but were any of these people aware they were about to appear on a website such as this..
Over the last couple of weeks I've witnessed some great wetlook in public places but unless it was a deliberate public display consider it immoral to take photo's let alone post them on the net....
Surely this is an infringement of personel and public rights..
If I'm wrong(legally) then I appologise for this outburst but I still have trouble accepting this practice as anything other than immoral |
In reply to Message (17287) my candid pics: rain drenched tourists exiting theme park
By NorCalWet - cd2dvd@yahoo.com Sat 23/07/05 18:21:58 GMT Website: http://public.fotki.com/scooter1/drenched_tourists/ While on vacation at a large theme park in Orlando, Florida, it began to rain in the late afternoon. This is not unusual, but it kept raining, and rained harder and harder. This was now very unusual. Tourists visiting the park were leaving in droves. I had my video camera ready, safe and dry and inside the shop door near the entrance. You can see my frame grabs to see what people did to avoid the rain: nothing. Most just walked quickly to the exit, getting totally drenched. Enjoy!
