When you don't have a computer and have to access the internet from the library and only have one hour allowed, if the forum isn't working then you can't just get on later! You then have to wait until the next day and be way behind! |
In reply to Message (16349.1) Well...
By Nigel - nigel@wetlook.com Thu 02/06/05 10:53:33 GMT Website: www.wetlook.com Yes, it can be slow at times, but all the pages here are DYNAMIC - becuase of the various options for display, each time a page is diplayed there is CPU involvment - this is not a 'dumb' static site.
UMD has also suffered at times from severe slow downs as well.
Most of the time the forum is fairly responsive, but it when more than 200 or so people are hitting it simultaneously it does slow down.
NOTE: All the scripts have a timeout of a couple of minutes - so there is no point whatsoever waiting 15 mins for a page, it has long since timed out, and your browser should have told you so.
If a page times out, then just do a re-load.

In reply to Message (16349) Rediculously Slow Access
By Waiting - Thu 02/06/05 09:46:56 GMT Why is this site so slow? We have 10000s of hits per hour and no speed access issues on our web site from our end users. The UMD site is not like this (slow or no access at all). Even after 15 minutes on a click nothing happens! I know this site is free, but what good is free if it does not work efficiently and reliably? This problem is at all times of the day/night. |
