Well, sorry for the saturday then. I am not happy about it myself. Each day I took my camera to Pole Mokotowskie. Each day gave me a few good photos. Saturday would give me over 50 photos... But the batteries went dead after making TWO Sad Angry

The ponds may be a bit polluted but I think it's more of a myth. The fountains are usually pretty clean. I mean there is some trash and yes, you have a slight chance of stepping on a broken beer bottlem, especially after saturday night, but I have never heard of anyone having serious health problems. That beeing said, I myself don't go in the water usually in the bigger fountains as people take dogs to swim there. That also has it's good sides, though as some times the dogs seem to be afraid of water and their female owners go in with them fully clothed (a tipical scene at Pole Mokotowskie ;) )

Swimming was forbidden in the past. But not by the health department. They don't check it, or do that only when some tabloid asks them too. It was just forbidden, because... it was forbidden. You know, some fountains still have these rules (in Rome for example). On Pole Mokotowskie the last time they put up a no swimming sign was the hot year of 2002. The signs where ignored, then most where taken off by people and soon the city got rid of the rest. Anyway even when they were clearly visible the Police and Municipal Guard (Straż Miejska) didn't care about people swimming. One time back in 2002, a police patrol even acted as a life guard patrol, teling the ones drinking beer to go out of the water, and leving about 50 other sobber people swimming. That was ehen the signs were still in place.

Warsaw isn't Gdańsk on the see-front or Budapest with numeorus pools. And it does have its heat waves, so I think even those in charge see the need to cool down and are pretty relaxed about it.

Mike.

You know, I'd have been happier no knowing about the wetness on Saturday. I had to sweat all day while being entirely unable to convince my g/f to take a break from all our errands long enough to get CLOSE to water. Her method of cooling down is a naked bath. Well, she looks great, but I'd have been very happy to be in wet clothes all day...

Anyway, I've had the general idea that no one wants to swim in the ponds because they're too polluted. So, what is the real story-- is swimming in park ponds okay, or forbidden by the health department, or what?

In the meantime, I'll keep waiting for opportunities at Arkadia (actually got drenched there Monday, but the young women who were playing with the water stayed mostly dry); and wearing shorts with varying amounts of underwear in Wodnik.

I'd say give them a miss. The best places for Wetlook are the parks and fountains:

- The fountain/pond at POLE MOKOTOWSKIE (was really hot last saturday when hunderds of people came to the Strongmen event. Many girls landed in the pond, clothes, shoes and all. It was 32C!

- The fountain in front of Arkadia Mall

- The 4 small fountains and one bigger one on Plac Defilad around the Palace of Culture

- The Czerniakowskie Pond (Jeziorko Czerniakowskie) known for many teenage outdoor beer parties ending as dunkings.

- Park Szczęścliwicki, similar to Pole Mokotowskie, though less action.

All of these places had a lot of wetlook activieties during the 28-34 degree "long weekend" last week. Now it's a bloody 18 degrees and wetlook is not present. Those places really work as pools and are much more popular.

As far as indoor pools are concerned, as Max said, they usually don't allow swimming in clothes, unless you rent the place. My high school rented a pool in the Ursynów district for swiming lessons and many students have landed in the pool fully clothed. Nobody cared :-)

I've heard that there are outdoor pools in Warsaw, not just the indoor ones. Can anyone give me an idea how restrictive they are on swimwear compared to the indoor pools? I feel like I'm lucky no one yells at me for wearing more than just the spandex underwear that passes for swimwear here (eww!)...
