Thanks for the feedback and encouragement from everyone. It's interesting that, overnight, another 4.5Gb of video was served up. Again the equivalent of an entire month's worth of bandwidth on my old server. I'm also pleased that the server response seems good.

To answer some of the points/questions raised above ...

The new server has a huge amount of bandwidth available and I can buy extra at a reasonable rate, so I'm unlikely to run out in the short term at least. Thanks for the hosting offer(s) but I don't need them.

The MPEG sample video clip from Kev at Styx is the quality that is served to members on the pay site but, at just over 1 minute, much shorter. If you didn't try it, view at full screen - it's very good quality. The paysite also serves WMV clips for those with dialups, and currently contains around 2.5Gb of video and a lot of high quality still photos for members. The clips can reach 20 mins each (split over 3 or 4 files) - all full screen.

And it's encouraging that there are people out there who appreciate the efforts of the webmasters to bring everyone some good material.

Bandwidth ... and disappointment

The new GrayHost server is standing up well to its use. As well as the sites already located on it, there has been a large number of hits to Kev's www.styx-photography.com site since WIR publised it in #1597 below. That site alone has served in excess of 14Gb of data in just under 2 days. Such an amount would have blown the entire month's limit of the server I was using for Lisa Bubbles by a factor of 3!

So, I am well pleased with the way it is responding and I wonder how the response is to you, the visitors?

And the disappointment .... ?

... well over 2000 people have viewed the superb MPEG that Kev put there of his new model Louise, and around 1000 have viewed the WMV video ... yet there has not been one comment from anyone, not even a thank you! As other webmasters out there know, it's a thankless job isn't it?
