Yeah...I would not recommend Khao San Road in Bangkok during Songkran either.....cos that place is about 3% water and 97% being attacked by stinging mentholated talcum powder....and when you have a sunburned face that stings like after shave on your face. I took Tracie there in 1999 and it was brutal...sheer hell...and no fun at all.
Yeah...Pattaya has it's Songkran events lasting 5 days after it has already ended in other parts of the country....so technically it is possible for you to attend 2 Songkrans...i.e. spend the 12-15th in Chiang Mai...and so when their Songkran ends there on the 16th fly down to Bangkok and take a 1hr taxi ride and you can be in Pattaya on the 16th and spend another 4 days having fun in Pattaya at their Songkran too.
But I agree with Wet Fraser....i.e. after about 4-5 days of constantly being attacked with water when you leave your hotel...after 4 days it can wear you down.
The Thai people are just fine...it's their festival and they should do at they please.
It's the European tourists that wear me down....i.e. guys from Europe who are blind drunk and have that glazed look in their eyes as they try to knock your eyeball out with high powered bicycle pump style water gun.
Hey...I was recently watching George Romero's new re-make of his classic Zombie movie....DAWN OF THE DEAD....and by golly...I know half the zombies in that film...I see them at Songkran every year. You should watch that film....cos those are the kinds of foreign tourists you see over there....ha ha...a mad crowd of brain dead people with glazed looks in their eyes.

In reply to Message (16139) Hundreds of Songkran 2005 photos
By Magician - Sun 22/05/05 08:45:17 GMT Website: http://www.thailand-photos.net/gallery/showgallery.php/cat/530/page/1 Dozens of Songkran photos of Phuket , Patong Beach Thailand, where I normally go for April. These photos were not taken by me. I 'MISSED' Songkran this year - had to change plans at the last minute and ended up in Pattaya for April 13th-15th. Little did I know that Pattaya celebrate late from the 18th. Therefore I missed it in Pattaya, and then went to Bangkok for the night of the 15th, where my wife and I went to Khao San Road for a couple of hours of wetness, but I would not recommend this as a location to enjoy Songkran though. By the time we got to Patong Beach on the 16th, it was all over there. I felt gutted - paid £2500 for the 2.5week trip to co-incide with Songkran, and then missed it!!! There is only one per year, so have to wait another long 12months for the next one. Magician
