FYI....if you like to see events like this....i.e. people jumping in the pool to raise money for charity...there is a LOT cheaper solution than this wine event. Just go to the annual CELEBRITY POOL TOSS at that Hotel in San Francisco every August....here is the link to the last event
http://www.tndc.org/news/events/pool_toss_xii.html
Instead of $5000....you can attend this event for merely buying a $100 ticket....and they DO permit picture taking and filming too. I have offered to pay for the cost of tickets + gasoline, parking and a dinner for anybody in the SF area who wanted to attended and film it....I have made that offer the last 3 years...but nobody was interested in responding to me.
Lastly....a subjective comment based on my own personal preferences....I must be getting old and more jaded about wetlook these days...cos 10 years ago I could get interested in the concept of paying money to get girls to do stuff....but these days...I guess Leon has had too much of an influence on me. I personally don't get much of a thrill from enticing women to do stuff for money any more....heck....I would never pay $5000 to some girl to jump in the pool...AND LET HER TAKE HER SHOES OFF (as these folks did at this event). Heck...for $5000...I could go into any bar in Manila or Thailand...and throw the biggest pool party of the decade...and I would definitely NOT let them take their shoes off.
I dunno.....$5000 for some "nobody" to jump in the pool. For me....for $5000 I would want a big time celebrity to do jump in the pool and then do a LOT more than just swimming about......now...if it were to get the entire cast of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES...and NOBODY is allowed to take their shoes off.....now that would be worth it.
Incidentally...when Leon and I were in Thailand last week....whenever there were not enough girls in the pool and we needed to encourage more girls from the bar to jump in the pool fully clothed....do you know what it took....not $5000....not even $5.....all it took was "next one in....gets a free beer"....now THATS more appealing....cos you know they are not doing it for money....they just wanna have some fun and get a free drink.

By klm4748 - Mon 25/04/05 03:05:31 GMT Yeah, if I had that kind of money I'd be traveling the country, maybe the world, paying models and hotels to do wet photo shoots! |

Au contraire! It appears they may have made the event a donation-generating tradition. On the 2004 event, it says "the evening concluded with donors contributing additional financial pledges for laps swum in the Staglins’ pool by Napa luminaries Margrit Mondavi, wife of winemaker Robert Mondavi, California Congressman Mike Thompson and others, bringing in another $135,000 for mental health research" accompanied by a hard-to-see picture of the aforementioned woman and another female luminary swimming in the pool in what looks like their dresses. So while they made have limited the wetlook spectacle to old women (and men) of some influence in their elite circle, some form of the event seems to live on... |

By MK - wamtec@compuserve.com Sun 24/04/05 21:02:34 GMT Can anybody here "afford" an event like this....
quote..
The evening culminated with a group of guests offering $5,000 donations for each woman who was willing to jump into the Staglins' swimming pool. Having withstood a day of over 100 degree heat, 30 women immediately rushed from their tables, removing jewelry, shoes and eye glasses, and jumped into the pool. Some of the women who didn’t want to ruin their designer clothes stayed dry by donating $5,000 themselves.

Having just attended some Leon's pool parties in Thailand....he can get any girl to go in the pool for nothing.
If you have $5000 to spare....just give it to Leon and he will get you 100+ women in the pool and send you 2 tickets for the Queen Mary so you can cruise over the Atlantic to attend his event in style...ha ha
Alternatively...send the $5000 to me and I will rent you a 3 million dollar mansion on a private island with an pool and private beach in the Florida Keys...and supply you with 10 models that you can dress up and dunk all week as many times as you like.
Seriously though....check the other years for that event...it does not happen each year. It only happened one time in 2003...it did not happen again in 2004 or in 2001 or 2002 etc....so that appears to have been a one time event that you cannot expect will happen again.
