Hi Mark:

Glad to see that you are still "sluthing" and I have done some more myself and came up with Republic as the production studio for "Joan of Ozark". http://www.cine-holocaust.de/cgi-bin/gdq?dfw00fbw000242.gd Actors were often lent-out to other studios between jobs.

Also, I think that we are being fooled by the pout expression on the actress' face and to me, she does bear a resemblance to Anne Jeffreys http://www.annejeffreys.com/  The poster ad was not likely intended to be a visible prop from the film camera's lens, but this shot was taken by a still camera and I understand that these promo shots were not taken during the film shooting, but between takes or at rehearsals where they may not have done as thorough a job of tidying-up.

I guess we will find out for sure when you get your copy of the tape, assuming they did not cut the scene. Scatter Depressed

JJ....

Done some more sleuthing....still no difinitive answer yet on what movie or actors this mystery pic comes from...

but I can tell you where I am sure you can find the answer....the newspaper/flyer on the table refers to a Joe. E. Brown movie "Joan of Ozark"...and I do not think it is that particular film, cos I checked all the male and female actors listed for that film on www.imdb.com and then did a google image database search to match the faces of each male and female actor and none of them resemble the male or female actors in the mystery pic. HOWEVER...in those days (1942 was the year Joan of Ozark was released) there is no way a major studio would promote ANOTHER studio...and if there are any references to other actors or films...they would ONLY plug their own studio. So...I checked the bio for Joe E. Brown and he was under contract to Warner Brothers and so this means that the mystery film is almost certainly a Warner Brothers movie made at around 1942 or so.

Therefore the way to identify that movie is simple....go look at the pictorial book  called "The History of Warner Brothers"...that was published in 1979 by Clive Hirschorn. I used to have this book when I was living in the UK, and it shows pics from every single release per each year. All you have to do is find this book and look in the pages for 1942/43 and I am sure you will find some pics that match to those actors and will be able to identify the movie. Sadly...I no longer have my copy of this book. I left all my movie books back in the UK when I moved to Australia in 1979....but this books is very common and is often found in most major bookstores and in the reference section at the public library. Here is what the book looks like...

Next time you are near the public library or a decent bookstore like Barnes & Noble....have a look for this book and I am sure this will reveal the answer.
