Funny thing... comparing wetlook "now and then" raises some interesting comparisons...
How it's better now if we compare availability of pictures/film/video content, or the internet and the awareness it brings about the existence of a whole community of like-minded people...
How it was better "then" if we compare clothing styles (though some would argue that point)...
How it was better then if we compare the spontaneous behaviour we might see at beaches (though again, some people would argue this point too)...
How it may have been better in the days before "political correctness" became a virtual obsession in some places...
I think it depends entirely on what sort of wetlook you enjoy, what clothing you find most appealing, and where you live. I'm sure the pool/foam parties common in Germany did not exist in the 60's, just as the "splashdown" parties of the 60s are almost forgotten now (and I never even heard of them 'til they were mentioned on this forum).
I think we'd all like to find some ideal combination of what we either remember or interpret to be the best about the past and what we find to be the best about the present.
For me, it's not the vintage styles, but what used to be considered "appropriate attire" for women of the 40s and 50s - skirts, hose, and heels... definitely all before my time, so I can't call it nostalgia. If there's one point in history I could be magically transported to, it would be one of those "splashdown" parties... more for curiosity than anything else.

By Mike - swimlvr591@aol.com Fri 04/02/05 06:20:02 GMT Was there as much wet jeans swimming in the 80's as there is today? I have always wondered this, any replies? Does anyone have any private video or stills from the 80's? I love that era cos for one, thats when I was growing up, and two the jeans were a hell of alot sexier than jeans of today. Anyone have any 80's stories to share? |
