I'm sure it was because the director wanted to get as close to a nude scene without actually having one. The scene in question invloves the two romantic leads coming upon a water fall and then decide to go in swimming (if memory serves. I haven't actually seen the film in years, though I have a Japanese version of it on tape I bought just for that scene). Phoebe isn't actually wearing her dress. She takes that off. "Paradise" is a period piece, and Phoebe goes into the water wearing what used to be called a "shimmy", which has evolved into the modern "slip". The scene is very remenicent of the more recent scene in "Tuck Everlasting" where Alexis Bledel does the same thing, but with a more dramatic (and athletic) jump into the water. Kerry Tiller |
