I quite agree with the previous posts. You may need 12 megapixels only if you want to make enormous posters. 4-5 megapixels is O.K. But I want to add one more thing. There should be 10x OPTICAL zoom. As for a digital zoom, don't count on it, when you use it, it reduces the resolution of the picture. |

My fundamental question: how good is good enough?
I know that you need at least 12 megapixel resolution to equal the resolution of 35mm film (my benchmark), but that still seems to be in the realm of rather pricey pro gear. Unfortunately, I'm more or less budget-limited to consumer-grade equipment.
What are folks using these days (brands, megapixels) and what sort of results are they getting (any samples I could look at)?
