I'm glad to hear the tributes to Russ Meyer. Not only was he fond of wetlook (there are also scenes in his films "Common Law Cabin" and especially, "Mudhoney" where a sexy busty blond mute in a tight dress is pushed in the lake for no reason) but Meyer was also a great filmmaker. His films are beautifully shot (he used to be a photographer for Playboy) and funny as hell. The dialog in his films is bizarre as hell, hilarious and memorable. Believe it or not, he's a good social critic as well. His movies often attack religious hypocrisy, especially in Mudhoney, which I think is his best film. To honor the man, go look for his films (very hard to find outside of cult video stores or if you're lucky, at your local adult video shop).
In my opinion, Meyer was one of the first great American Independent filmmakers. He retained control over all his films even into distribution. He was also wildly successful. Many of those films were made on very low budgets (like 30 grand) and they raked in millions. He was a genius.
Maybe now that he's gone, we'll finally see the big retrospective of his work that he had been compiling for many years. The title: "The Breast of Russ Meyer."
R.I.P. Russ! Gone but not forgotten! |

By spencer - Fri 24/09/04 19:19:52 GMT I'm probably dating myself too. I remember a scene from the Vixens that had a girl swimming in a pool with thigh high boots on. It was from the late 60's or early 70's. |

Anybody who knows the Russ Meyer legacy of films, knows that he single handedly invented the genre for cult films about big breasted women. Several of his movies contained wetlook scenes too....for a list of Russ Meyer films with wetlook scenes...refer to Anythony's wetlook database site where my database is stored.
Anyway...Russ Meyer passed away yesterday....and he will be sorely missed by fans of big breasted women around the world.
I cannot resist the first thing that came to my mind when I heard the news of his passing...i.e. Bob Hope's theme tune..
"thanks.... for the mammories"....
Russ would probably approve of that.
