If you try to start a conversation about it "cold", I'm not surprised at the reaction. If you frame it like "would you put on a dark shirt and jeans, and go in the water?" - because it's probably going to sound like a request, and with absolutely no context, it WILL make you sound weird.

If you can segue into wetlook from something closely related, or if it's an answer to a question she has asked you, then you might be surprised at how positive a reaction you can get.

Let's consider the following question to your new girlfriend: "Have you ever wanted to jump into a pool with all your clothes on?"  If the two of you happen to be fully clothed and standing at the edge of a pool, she's not going to think you're weird at all... depending on circumstances, she may be tempted to do just that right there. If it's a hot day and she's wearing something durable like jeans and t, she may even come back with a response like "I will if you will". Ask the same question when she's just finished telling you her dog died, don't expect it to be well received.

You have to give some thought to her frame of mind and her "mental context" when you want to sound a woman out on a subject like this. If you want your g/f to know that wetlook turns you on, you have to get her talking about her sexual interests and let her ask you about yours, and answer her at that time and place. Once she asks the question, she's got to be prepared for the answer.
