That's corect. A friend of mine is a printer. She told me, that it is an old tradition. It symbolizes that they get cleaned off the ink after they finnished the apprenticeship.

Somebody from Germany will be able to tell you more or correct me if i am wrong, but i am sure it's a tradition to dunk Printworkers into the water once they've completed their apprenticeship....or something like that!!

Hey everyone,

Pardon my cultural ignorance, but for years now I've seen wetlook pictures of guys and girls in jeans and T-shirts being dunked into giant water tanks with the heading "gautschfest". I was wondering if some of the European posters could explain to me exactly what this festival is.

I assume it's some kind of celebration, but why all the involuntary gang dunkings?
