In reply to Message (5842.1.1.2.1) The Big Lies
By Est - Fri 12/09/03 15:12:47 GMT I agree with you Ray... and would add
1. Anyone who thinks the American media is liberal (a big lie perpetrated by our increasingly corporate owned media) should read "Manufacturing Consent", a hard scientific study of media treatment of our foreign policy actions.
2. There are a rather shocking number of parallels between Bush's actions following 9-11, and Adolph Hitler's actions following the burning of the German Reichstag, including that in both cases there was a sharp upturn in the display of nationalist symbols (In their case, the swastika, in our case, the stars and stripes).
3. America (my home) consumes WAY more than it's fair share of the world's resources, and we keep up our rich guy standards at the barrel of a gun (witness our military which costs more than the military of the next seven nations combined), this, not Bush's ineptitude (which really is no mystery) is the real source of shame for us.
4. The preceding facts, (and many others) are bound to make people feel uncomfortable (they certainly made me feel uncomfortable when I first heard them)... we Americans like to think of ourselves as good and virtuous, and that our government promotes fairness and democracy on the world stage. People tend to become quite angry when someone approaches the bubble of their illusions with the sharp pin of reality. |
In reply to Message (5842.1.1.2) Conspiracy Theory
By ray - ray_diaz1@yahoo.com Fri 12/09/03 03:08:11 GMT I think it is another conspiracy theory, like the John Kennedy assassination. Facts can be arranged to make to validate a theory. The Bush adminstration did that most recently in making their case for WMD.
What bothers me more is that nearly 70% of Americans still believe that Iraq was tied to the 9-11 terroist attack. When our executive branch is able to spin mis-information this successfully, this is what worries me.
The Bush administration has admitted shopping reasons for invading Iraq and choose WMD as the reason with the most public and congressional support. Then they built their intelligence to support what they were spinning to the American public. As Americans we are resistant to believe that our president and his administration would lie to us, but that is exactly what they did and only one candidate running for the 2004 election is brave enough to say that, Senator Bob Graham.
Just my 2 cents... sorry to those who don't want to hear it |
